Compaq CQ56-115DX arrived today. They received my old laptop on Feb 25th.
My claim was approved on Feb. 22, and I received a replacement CQ56DX115 on May 18.
I bought a Compaq V6000Z in 2006. Late in the warranty the wireless became unreliable. I did have the option to return the machine for repair barely within the warranty but was using it heavily for work. There was no way I could do without it. I chose to use an external USB wireless adapter rather than do a warranty repair. Every time I got the machine out, I plugged in the external adapter for Wi-Fi.
The replacement is roughly similar to the original machine except for no Bluetooth. The V6000Z had stereo mics that worked so poorly as to be unusable; the replacement has none. I used an external webcam/mic, which is what I’ll do with this one. The replacement only has 2GB of memory, so I replaced that with 8GB. People who get these machines may want to do the same.
Except for the lemon laptop, my experience with HP computers has been good. In connection with my IT support function I’ve bought many over the last 6 years. However, the V6000Z laptop was a junker unfortunately. By doing annoying improvisations I was able to use it.
I shipped my dv6233se off on 5 March 2011. It was received and signed for on 8 March 2011 in Santa Clara, CA by J. Molivares at 12:43 pm. It’s obvious to me that Settlement People were waiting for all of the claims to be received, before shipping ANYTHING. In addition, they originally touted a 4 to 6 week turnaround time and tomorrow will be 12 weeks for me w/o a computer.
Originally, the replacement model was a Compaq cq56-150, which is a ‘strippie’ – an entry level machine that Walmart sells for $324+Tax. My machine had an AMD 64 bit processor, dual core, SD card reader, 6 cell battery and a web-cam.
The Compaq is a Celeron, not dual core, no SD card reader, no web-cam, 4 cell battery and only has 2 GB of memory coupled with Windows 7. Windows 7 requires 3 GB to function correctly, and then it only looks at 2.7 GB, so the Compaq replacement will require significant expenditure just to add the lost pheriperals, and as far as the processor chip-set is concerned – you’ve got to buy a mother board to fix that. That motherboard may or may not be compatible with the other devices in the machine.
So, off to the ‘hock-shop’ foor whatever I can get for it and onto a MacBook Pro. I’m done with Mr. Softy and really want to run away from Intel as well.
Greetings;
I am a litigant in this awful settlement…I am now waiting on the second shipment of these CQ56-115DX computers…as the original “8-10 week” time schedule to receive the replacement has now passed. The call center folks now tell me that I should call back in “2 weeks” or “3″ to see if my replacement has actually been sent.
Secondly, I now learn that only $2 million has been set aside for the reimbursement..Now if the number of replacement computers is in the 30,000 range ( at a retail cost to NVIDIA of aprox. $10 million ) then the reimbursement MIGHT be aprox. $60.00 per respondent!!!!!!!!!!!!!My receipt for repair was for $458.00… Incredible…How have you been? I truly appreciate your participation in this cause. I am aghast that the legal system allows such a poorly construed settlement. I thought that $908 million was set aside for this settlement.What happened? Regards, Richard D. Gordon CP
Anything moving forward with regard to malpractice suit against Milberg?
I received the information for this settlement in December after holding onto this broken laptop for years. I’ve rushed to get all of my information to the settlement office and its now half way through July and haven’t received my replacement. What a waste of 1200 dollars.
We did everything. I even boxed up our laptop, as instructed, and sent it off. We have heard nothing since. Bazarrow??
Thanks for any insight?
This is a shame. Only recently have I started using my 8600M GT equipped laptop on a regular basis and it gets very hot and crashes Windows 7. After google searches it’s clear it’s the GPU, but since the lawsuit ended in July I am not eligible.
We need to spread the word, we need to tell everyone how bad Nvidia is. We need a Nvidia sucks website, and every computer enthusiast forum needs a Nvidia Sucks section and computer news sites need a “nvidia sucks” tag. When ATI was sued for not being HDCP compliant on 5 yr old video cards they mailed everyone brand new video cards. Unfortunately I missed that lawsuit too but I didn’t even know my cards weren’t HDCP compliant and would have loved to receive a new video card for a card gathering dust at the bottom of a filing cabinet.
But this was different, these were new high-end laptops, and Nvidia screwed all their customers.
